ASTRONOMY ACADEMIES 2010
Explore the thrill of space, science and rockets, through hands-on activities. Three Levels to Take You to New Heights!
Level I–Blast Off (Completed Grade 3 – Grade 5)
- Receive all the necessary equipment to safely launch rockets
- Build, customize, and launch a model rocket
- Learn the basic principles of flight
- Perform rocketry experiments
- Create space and rocketry presentation for family night
- Participate in a simulated space mission
Level II-Lift Payloads (Completed Grade 4– Grade 6)
- Build, customize, and launch a model rocket that launches and returns a raw egg
- Learn about the forces necessary during rocket flight
- Practice landing rockets in a target zone
- Perform microgravity experiments
- Create a space and rocketry presentation for family night
- Participate in a simulated space mission
Level III-Fly Higher (Completed Grade 5 – Grade 8)
- Build, customize, and launch a model rocket that uses two engines
- Use trigonometry to calculate rocket altitudes
- Observe and predict how to observe satellites
- Explore the challenges of living in microgravity
- Create a space and rocketry presentation for family night
- Participate in a simulated space mission
WISCONSIN ASTRONOMY ACADEMY
Learn about our place in the Universe through hands-on astronomy activities!
Level I–Constellations (Completed Grades 3 – 5)
- Learn how to use stars to find your way on Earth and in the sky.
Level II–Solar System (Completed Grades 4 – 6)
- Discover what makes each of the planets fascinating and unique.
- Each participant will receive a fully-functional replica of Galileo’s refracting telescope valued at $30.
Level III–Deep Space (Completed Grades 5 – 8)
- Discover distant celestial objects that only a telescope can see.
- Each participant will receive a fully-functional tabletop reflecting telescope valued at $75.
General Information
- Each camp session lasts 3 hours per day for one week (Monday through Friday)
- Sessions are taught by enthusiastic, fully-trained instructors
- Low child/instructor ratios
- Age/grade is approximate.
- Thursday night of each week is Family Night with activities & a reception
- Registration includes all materials, a daily snack, certificate, and a t-shirt.
- Sign up for more than one Space Academy session (siblings included) and save 10% on each
- Sign for both an Earth Adventure & a Space Academy sessions and spend the whole day (and save 10%)
- Supervision will be provided over lunch for campers staying for more than one session
Registration Information
General Information
- Each camp lasts one week (Monday through Friday).
- Morning and afternoon sessions are available.
- Options are available to spend the whole day.
- Each session is led by an enthusiastic, fully-trained instructor and volunteers.
- Age/grade restrictions are approximate. Contact 920-832-2925 for more information.
* The Weis Earth Science Museum may cancel a session that does not attain minimum enrollment. A full refund will be given if a session is cancelled. Indoor activities replace outdoor activities on days with inclement weather.
Registration Fee And Program Dates
- Registration includes all materials, including a t-shirt and daily snack.
- Cost for any one camp session is $125.
- Sign up for more than one camp (siblings included!) And receive 10% off all camp registration fees this summer!
- Refund policy: After payment is processed, $25 fee; within two weeks of session, 50%; no refunds once session starts.
