The Fox Village opened its doors for UW-Fox and Fox Valley Technical College students to move in on Aug. 15.

The student housing facility has the perks of dorm living but the privacy and space of an apartment.

"Most students in their first or second year do not have a very nice living situation. So for students to come here, to brand new apartments, and have the privacy of their own room is really great," resident assistant Jordan Beauchine said.

Many students choose to attend UW-Fox so they can commute and save money, but some students want the opportunity to live on campus like at other two and four-year universities.

"I wanted to live here for the experience of being on my own, even though my family lives close by," freshman Morgan Baerwald said.

The student housing addition is also attracting out of the area students to the university.

"I'm not from around here, but I was interested in UW-Fox," freshman Evan Hibbs said.

"It's nice going to a two-year school with a good transfer program and then the chance to live on campus."

Resident Tyler Sanftleben considered the Fox Village because of the environment.

"I looked at other housing but nothing compared because here, I would be living with other students and could have more of a college experience," Sanftleben said.

The Fox Village uses a compatibility form to match roommates with each other.

"I didn't know any of my three roommates, but we are all really happy with the situation and have kind of become best friends," Hibbs said.

"I live with my best friend, but we have met lots of people. Living in the apartment is nice because we can all hang out right here," Baerwald said.

Location was a key factor to making the Fox Village successful. It is in a central location where residents are able to walk to almost anything they need.

"We are by a lot of different things. You can get to downtown Appleton easily and the Fox River Mall isn't far away," Hibbs said.

Every unit is fully furnished with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room and a full kitchen. Each resident has their own bedroom, and the rest is shared space. Laundry facilities are available on the second and third floors. The third floor has a lounge for residents to hang out and study in, with couches, tables and a flat screen television.

The Fox Village is located at 1284 Midway Road. There are still a few rooms available, and they are taking applications at any time. Visit the Fox's Village’s home page http://thefoxvillage.com/ for more information.
