The Communication Arts Center's
events coordinator Megan Mudge
plans to utilize the space for
events beyond the visual and
performing arts in her position.
UW-Fox recently hired Megan Mudge as the new events coordinator.
Mudge's job entails planning and coordinating events held in the university's Communication Arts Center (CAC). She will manage everything from visual and performing arts events like gallery exhibits, plays and concerts to educational lectures and fundraising gatherings.
"I'm an event dork. I like the events that people are really invested in and a lot of the fundraising events for good causes, when you can see the people that are really passionate about it," Mudge said.
"I like events that the students can utilize as well, here at UW-Fox."
The CAC team is hopeful Mudge will help to expand their department and bring the community together.
"The CAC's main focus for the future is to continue supporting our academic programs, so theatre, music and art, in addition to fostering community relationships," Susan Rabideau, director of theater, said.
In her short time at Fox, Mudge has already organized upcoming events like the fundraising gala "Wine, WOMEN & Art (and a little chocolate too)" March 21. Sponsored by Women's Fund, the gathering will include a cash bar, chocolate treats and a raffle drawing, and showcase local female artists' work. Tickets may be purchased in advance for $10 or at the door for $15.
In addition to Women's Fund, Mudge is working with groups like Global Outreach and Inside Magazine for future events.
Michigan Technological University (MTU) "Mind Trekkers", another event coordinated by Mudge, will feature science, technology, engineering and math demonstrations by MTU students. The event is invitation-only April 19, but will be open to the public April 20.
"It's like a really cool science fair with lots of really neat stuff," Mudge said.
Mudge also planned the upcoming "THINC!" (Technology & Human Innovation Networking Conference) event for May 13.
"It's almost like what we're trying to do here at UW-Fox. It's about getting people together and coming up with different ideas and interacting," Mudge said.
Fox's technical theater director, Erick Gyrion, is impressed with the work Mudge has done for the department so far.
"She's very fun and focused and easy to get along with. I would definitely rank her at the top of her field," Gyrion said.
"Reading her experience and background it was very evident upon meeting her that we would get along great. She has exceeded every expectation I've had of her."
"I grew up in a small town and it was really refreshing to come into such a nice community like this. Everybody has been so great and the facility is just gorgeous. I would really like to see UW-Fox become a community asset and have the community utilize us as much as possible," Mudge said.
Gyrion believes Mudge is doing just that.
"[Mudge] has already been great at the soliciting of bringing new people to campus. It's surprising how many people come to the CAC and they don't know that it exists. I always hear people say 'Wow, I didn't know this place was here, I would've had my event here,'" Gyrion said.
"I think in the future we're going to see a lot more private and corporate events coming in. Now that Megan is in the position of soliciting those events, I think it will open the door for a lot more events."
Mudge previously worked aboard Carnival Cruise Lines as an event coordinator, assistant cruise director and cruise director. She hosted shows, trivia events and put together deck parties for passengers.
"I recently got married and we were kind of looking to settle down, but we didn't even expect to get this job [at UW-Fox]. We applied just on a whim because I grew up in the Midwest and we love this area and it's close to family," Mudge said.
"We actually had our bags packed to get back up on the ship when they offered me the job and we just couldn't pass up the opportunity."
