Projection Screens

    Problem:  Screen won't stay down

    Solution:

  1. Pull screen down.
  2. As you get it to the appropriate length, pull the screen not only downwards but outwards towards you and away from the wall by as much as a foot.  This will engage the clasp inside the screen housing.

Overhead Projectors

    Problem:  Burned out lamp

    Solution:

  1. Our overhead projectors have two lamps inside each projector, so if one lamp burns out, the user can switch to the spare.
  2. The projector should be off when you activate either spare lamp change switch.
  3. The switch is located here (see image).
  4. If the spare doesn't work, both lamps may need to be replaced.  If both lamps are not working please call the Help Desk for replacement lamps.
  5. All overhead projectors on our campus use an "ENX" type lamp.  Please make sure any lamps you use have "ENX" stamped on the box and the base of the lamp.
  6. The lamps look like this (see image).
  7. If the projector doesn't work with a new lamp please bring it to the IIT department for repair.

Slide Projectors

    Problem:  Burned out lamp

    Solution:

  1. Slide projectors do not have spare lamps inside.
  2. If a lamp dies inside a slide projector, you most likely need a new "EXR" type lamp.  Verify the bulb type by looking at the code on the base of the lamp you removed from the projector.  Replace with an exact replacement bulb.
  3. Always wait for the projector to cool before changing the lamp.
  4. A diagram to help with replacing bulbs is here (see image).

Video/Data Projectors

Problem:  No image on screen - Panasonic PT-200 (3 lenses in front)

    Solution:

  1. Determine source (i.e. VCR or Computer).  Make certain that the VCR or Computer are powered on and supplying a signal.
  2. Find the silver wired remote control box in the classrooms media box.  Make sure the unit has the power "ON".  Push the button labeled "LINE".
  3. If the image still doesn't appear on the screen, make sure the video line is connected to the back of the "VCR VIDEO OUT".
  4. If the video still doesn't appear, please notify the Help Desk.

Problem:  No image on screen - Panasonic PT-592/595 or Epson 5300/5350 (1 lens in front)

    Solution:

  1. If lamp doesn't come on using the "Power" button on the remote, check to ensure the remote batteries are good and that the power cords are attached to the projector.
  2. If problem persists please inform the Help Desk.
  3. If the lamp does come on:
  4. Determine source (i.e. VCR or Computer).  Make certain that the VCR or Computer are powered on and supplying a signal.
  5. Find the remote control for the projector.  Make sure the projectors power is "ON".  Push the button on the remote labeled "Input".  Toggle the "Input" switch until the image appears.
  6. If no image appears, check the connections inside the classrooms media box.
  7. If the problem is with a VCR, there should be a cable connected to the "Video Out" jack of the VCR.  If not, restore that connection.  If that doesn't work, please call the Help Desk.
  8. If the problem is with a computer, make certain that the "EXTRON" distribution amplifier is plugged in.  The "EXTRON" takes the signal from the computer and amplifies it, sending it to two devices.  One device is the Video Data Projector, the other is the computer monitor.
  9. If the image appears on the computer monitor but not the Video Data Projector, check the connections to the projector.
  10. If the image appears on the Video Data Projector but not the computer monitor, check the connections to the computer monitor.
  11. If the image appears on neither the Video Data Projector nor the computer monitor check to make sure that the "EXTRON" is plugged in.
  12. If the problem continues please call the Help Desk.
