Position Overview
The University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley (Menasha, WI) is searching for a Lecturer of Mathematics for the Fall 2009 semester with classes beginning August 26.
Responsibilities
Teach the following classes and hold office hours for students:
MAT 091-07 TTh 2:30p-4:15p (4 credits) -
Intended for students with little or no previous algebra. Topics include the real number system and operations with real numbers and algebraic expressions linear equations and inequalities polynomials factoring and introduction to quadratic equations.
MAT 108-03 TTh 5:15p-6:30p (3 credits) -
This course is intended to develop analytic reasoning and the ability to solve quantitative problems. Topics to be covered include construction and interpretation of graphs functional relationships descriptive statistics geometry and spatial visualization math of finance exponential growth and basic probability. Appropriate use of units and dimensions estimates mathematical notation and available technology will be emphasized throughout the course. Prereq: (a) two years of high school algebra (b) a grade of C or better in MAT 105 or (c) course(s) equivalent to (a) or (b).
MAT 110-07 TTh 6:40p-7:55p (3 credits) -
Definition of function; linear and non-linear functions and graphs including logarithmic and exponential functions; systems of linear equations; theory of polynomial equations and optional topics such as mathematical induction matrix solution of linear systems and Cramer's rule. Prereq: A grade of C or better in MAT 105 or placement based on placement test score.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications are as follows: To teach MAT 091, undergraduate degree in mathematics; to teach MAT 108 and 110, a Masters Degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or comparable background in mathematics.
Salary
$1,137 to 1,422 per credit estimated at the 2008-09 instructional academic staff salary schedule, depending on rank and level of appointment.
