FOX Biology Lecturer Wanted

Responsibilities

The University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley (Menasha, WI) is searching for lecturer to teach lecture, discussion and laboratory sections of biological sciences courses for Spring 2013 with possible rehire the next academic year. Specific lecture/lab/discussions are yet to be determined. Please relate application materials to teaching BIO 101 and/or BIO 162 (descriptions below). Teaching load could be half-time to full-time depending upon qualifications and course availability.

Qualifications

MS degree required, Ph.D. preferred, in the biological sciences. For BIO 101 previous teaching experience in introductory biology, environmental science or any upper-level biology course is desirable. For BIO 162 previous teaching experience in plant science is preferred.

Course descriptions

BIO 101 Concepts of Biology

5 credits. An introduction to the fundamental principles of living organisms. Includes cell and tissue structure, growth, basic physiological processes, reproduction and inheritance, classification, evolution and ecology. Lecture, lab, and may also include demonstrations, discussions and field trips.

BIO 162 General Botany

5 credits. An introduction to plant sciences including the structure, development, physiology and genetics of plants. The relation of the major plant groups and the principles of Biology. Lecture, lab, and may also include demonstrations, discussions and field trips.

Salary

Salary is based on level of appointment (FTE) and rank. Level of appointment for BIO 101 and BIO 162 would be based on 16% FTE for lecture, 19.2% for lab, and 5.325% for discussion. Between the two courses we expect to hire for 1 lecture, 5 labs and 4 discussions. As an example of an ad hoc instructor salary for one semester in the biological sciences, an appointment of 40.525% FTE would be paid $6,913 at the associate lecturer level and $8,221 at the senior lecturer level.* An appoinment of 57.6% FTE would be paid $9,825 at the associate lecturer level and $11,685 at the senior lecturer level.*

*Salary for appointments of 70% or higher would be computed at a higher base pay.
