When attended UWFox: Fall 2010-Spring 2011

Background before UWFox

I’ve been a homeschooler all my life, and graduated as a homeschooler in Fall 2010. I did attend St. Mary Central in Menasha part-time for my Junior and Senior year in order to take advantage of the Advanced Placement classes.  I’ve been working at Culver’s of Darboy since September 2006 (the start of my freshman year), and will continue to work there throughout the school year and summer. I’ve also had other jobs, such as cleaning a dentist’s office and running a forklift in a landscaping distributor warehouse.

My family of ten loves to go camping and hiking all around the country. We’ve been to multiple states and state parks, including Glacier National Park in Montana, Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, the Grand Canyon in Arizona, Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, Michigan, New York, and Florida. Our longest day hike was 14 miles in Grand Tetons National Park.

Why did you choose UWFox?

Deciding to attend UWFox was really a decision about whether I would attend UW-Stout or a private college in another state. Once I made the decision that I would graduate from UW-Stout, the choice to attend UWFox for my first year was very easy. UWFox makes it very easy to transfer credits to other UW schools, and provides an effective way to save money while gaining a top-notch education. Another reason I chose UWFox was that I wasn’t quite ready to leave my close-knit family, and I wanted one more year to spend with my parents and siblings. I am very pleased with this decision and, looking back, I would have chosen the same thing over and over again.

Have you chosen a major?

My chosen major is Art with a focus in Multimedia Design.

What are you learning that you find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?

All of the classes I have taken during the past two semesters have been extremely informative and eye-opening. I’ve taken something away from every class and applied that knowledge to my life outside of school. As an Art major, I’ve found my drawing classes to be the most enjoyable and rewarding; I can see my skills progress steadily through the guidance of my instructors and my own efforts. I just can’t get enough of it!

What are your career plans after UWFox?

My plans after UWFox are to transfer to UW-Stout for the Fall 2011 semester and graduate with at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts in Multimedia Design. I then hope to become employed as a Graphic Artist or work in a similar field, though my dream job is to design concepts for video games. Given the nature of my degree, I may also seek to create my own business and provide freelance graphic design. This way I can work from the home, which is ideal for years down the road if and when I become a stay-at-home mom.

Other interesting things about yourself that you’d like to share?

My passions are drawing, writing, video games, and music. I’ve been drawing and writing fiction ever since I can remember, and I’ve played piano for eight years. I’ve also been involved in ballroom dance for a number of years, and took part in the campus’ ballroom dance club for a time. I’m a member of the UWFox Grappling Club, where I learn Jiu Jitsu and other self-defense techniques in a fun and laid-back atmosphere. I enjoy playing football and soccer during the summer, as well as camping with my family for weeks at a time. If I could choose any place in the world to travel to, it would be Japan.
