Background before UWFox

I attended New London High School and graduated in spring 2011. During high school I got my first real job. I became a busser at what was then called Fratello’s Restaurant & Brewery, which now goes by the name Fox River Brewery due to a recent name change.  I still work there but now I'm trained not only as a busser but also as a hostess and an expediter. The last of which is the job I do most often there. I also have another job within the Fox River Mall at Build-A-Bear Workshop. I’ve worked there for roughly a year and a half and have loved it! I get to be part of and help make a great experience for each and every guest that comes into the store (regardless of their age!).

In the summer between my junior and senior years in high school I had an amazing opportunity. I went to Costa Rica with my fellow classmates who had also completed the required two years of Spanish classes (at this point I had taken three years). We traveled around different parts of Costa Rica for about 12 days experiencing the culture and just trying to soak it all in! One of the most memorable days I spent there was just like a movie. We rode horses to a waterfall and then got to swim in the waterfall/lake area. It was unbelievable!

Why did you choose UWFox?

The main reason that I came to UWFox first was to save money. I wanted to start out my college experience with as little debt as possible. Thanks to the generosity of scholarship donors, that debt is lessened more.  I also came here to remain close to home. I love getting to come home, play with my niece and experience her growing up first hand. Being close to home has also allowed me to keep both of my jobs. As any college student would tell you, having a job is a necessity.

Have you chosen a major?

What are you learning that you find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?

I love the small class sizes here. They make it less intimidating to answer a professor's question out loud. The ability to personally tailor your courses is also helpful. I'm learning things by fulfilling my associate’s degree requirements that I’ll need for my later degrees.

What are your career plans after UWFox?

I plan to continue my college education at UW Oshkosh where I intend to get my bachelor’s degree. Depending on what opportunities present themselves I hope to continue my education beyond that as well.

Other interesting things about yourself that you’d like to share?

I’ve been a member of Girl Scouts since I was in kindergarden and I’m now a lifetime member. Being part of Girl Scouts helped me experience new things with lifelong friends. I'm lucky enough to be able to be an active part of the Girl Scout world. At my job, at Build-A-Bear Workshop, we host Girl Scout parties. It's fun to see the girls' faces light up when I tell them that I'm still a Girl Scout.

I'm also proud to say that I'm an Ambassador here at UW Fox. It's been a new and fun experience.
