Why did you choose UW Fox?
“The decision to return to school was a daunting one for me. I was married with four young sons. Although I knew how to run a household, I wondered, ‘Could I successfully juggle the demands of family and still excel in an academic environment’? When I walked into the UWFox Student Services Office during the summer of 2005, I carried with me many of my reservations. Thanks to the friendly and knowledgeable reception I received, I was quickly able to put my fears aside. That day, college for me became more than dream—and that’s when I got excited!”
Have you chosen a major?
Communications, with a minor in English
What did you learn that you found/find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?
“At UWFox I learned that it’s okay to step out of your comfort zone and try new things. Thanks to this campus, I’ve had the opportunity to be in clubs, work on the literary annual, and even take an airplane trip to Kentucky to be part of a presentation panel for Sigma Kappa Delta [the national English honor society for two year colleges]. It was my first flight! UWFox offers such a wide variety of opportunities that each person’s experience as a student here is unique—it really is what you make it.”
What are your career plans after UW Fox?
“I graduated from UWFox in the spring of 2008 and transferred to St. Norbert College, where I’m entering my senior year. This semester I’m interning at UWFox within the University Relations department. I’m looking forward to expanding my knowledge in the communications field. I’m also currently looking into a Master’s degree program in Communications and would love to find a job that will let me use the skills I’m developing.”
Other interesting things you’d like to share?
“I’ve always enjoyed writing. Six years ago I wrote a novel. Upon completion of the book—and many rejections later—I decided I needed to take a creative writing class. My husband suggested that instead of taking just one class that I go back to school and work toward a degree. It was his suggestion that prompted my interest in furthering my education, and which ultimately led me to UWFox.”
