Hometown: Medford, MA
Current residence: Menasha, WI
When attended UWFox: Spring 2012 - present
Background before UWFox
I moved to Menasha, WI for my senior year of high school and graduated from Menasha High School in 2009. The only job I had during high school was the summer before I moved and I worked for 2 weeks at a grocery store and used the money I made to buy myself a guitar. During college I had a few different jobs. I worked as a calculus tutor at UW Oshkosh for a semester. I worked at an ice cream shop called the Daily Scoop in Memorial Union at UW-Madison. I have also worked for the student activities office at UWFox. My most recent job is working at the Express gas stations. I haven’t traveled anywhere interesting, just back and forth between MA and WI. I’ve been to New York City and Vermont, and Minnesota for day trips.
Why did you choose UWFox?
I decided to come to UWFox after transferring between a couple different colleges. UWFox seemed like the best choice in the end because it’s only a few minutes from where I live and it’s inexpensive. Since I am majoring in mechanical engineering the deciding factor was the fact that UWFox has a collaborative mechanical engineering program with UW-Platteville so I can complete my bachelor’s degree here at the UWFox campus.
Have you chosen a major
I want to graduate from UWFox with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
What are you learning that you find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?
So far my engineering graphics class is the most interesting to me, although challenging as well. I love the sciences, but I’m also really into the arts and I like drawing so being able to combine the two in my engineering graphics class is a lot of fun.
What are your career plans after UWFox?
I’m still not sure of what I want to do when I graduate. I think that’s why I’m so eager to start my professional courses and do an internship, so I can get more of an idea of exactly what I like most about mechanical engineering and what I want to do in the work force.
Other interesting things about yourself that you’d like to share?
I love math and science, but what most people find surprising is that I also love the arts. I started playing the flute when I was in 5th grade and played in the band and orchestra all through high school. I also play acoustic and electric guitar, although I wish I had more time to practice. I recently bought myself a ukulele. I’m always writing songs in my free time. I almost majored in music, but I have a bit of stage fright so I chose the engineering route instead. I also love reading and drawing, my college notes are usually laced with little doodles along the margins.
