Hometown: Menasha, WI
Current residence: Menasha, WI
When attended UWFox: Fall 2013 - Present
Background before UWFox
I attended Menasha High School and graduated in 2013. I did have one job during my sophomore year at high school, though it only lasted for a month before the restaurant where I worked closed. During my summer after high school I began working three different jobs, two of which are right here at UWFox.
Why did you choose UWFox?
I chose UWFox for a number of reasons … foremost among them were location and cost. With UWFox offering the lowest tuition in the UW System, I saw it as a great way to save money while still getting a high quality post-secondary education. UWFox is also located two minutes from where I live which helps to save on costs as well as makes the daily commute extremely simple.
Have you chosen a major?
Yes, I plan to major in Physics.
What are you learning that you find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?
It’s ironic actually, because I came here to learn about academic subjects and yet I’ve learned far more about being a better individual. Every day at UWFox, I learn all about new people I meet, my community, and the modern world. That’s what I find most interesting and rewarding. Because of the UW-Fox Valley Foundation, I learned first-hand about the generosity people can show to one another when I was awarded the Foundation’s “Scholar Award” scholarship. It covers the value of full tuition for four consecutive semesters here at UWFox.. People, like those who are involved with the Foundation, truly inspire me and countless others because of their tremendous investment in and donations to the education of students in our community. For that, they will forever have my deepest appreciation.
What are your career plans after UWFox?
I’ve long desired to study Physics. I plan to acquire a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics with a minor in Electrical Engineering before eventually going on to earn a Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Physics and at least a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. After college I want to do research in electro-magnetism and gravity. I hope to develop new methods of sustainable power generation and apply those methods to propulsion devices as well as other highly complex systems such as space crafts.
Other interesting things about yourself that you’d like to share?
My outlook on humanity frequently crosses the line between two extremes. On one side I believe that we could be on the verge of an era of prosperous technological expansion and on the other I see us on the edge of an era of desolate economic and environmental decline. The deciding factor in my view is us; more specifically, people’s decisions. We’ve long had the knowledge to make a far more advanced global society, and yet we’ve barely improved at all in the last century. The “have’s” keep everything to themselves and choose to run society as they see fit. The “have not’s” almost entirely live ignorantly in near-indigence compared to what the world could and should be like. And to make it clear, I’m most definitely not speaking about wealth; I speak solely about knowledge because even the wealthiest person cannot realize his will without the knowledge to do so. It’s my belief that one of the most egregious offenses that one person can commit to another is withholding information.
