Hometown: Brillion, WI
Current residence: Brillion, WI
When attended UWFox: Fall 2010 - Present
Background before UWFox
I went to Brillion High School and graduated May 2010. I’ve been working at Gardner Dam Scout Camp for six summers in the shooting sports department. Probably the most interesting trip that I’ve been on was to Florida with my high school band. We performed as a marching band at Disney’s Magic Kingdom and at Universal Studios. I even got to celebrate my birthday at Universal!
Why did you choose UWFox?
I got the idea to come to UWFox primarily from my dad, who is a UWFox alumnus. I’d also heard from many other people that it was a very high quality college and a less expensive alternative to starting at a four-year university.
Have you chosen a major?
I’ve chosen to pursue a degree in Biological Chemistry. I may also work towards an emphasis in Chemistry, but I’ll decide on that later.
What are you learning that you find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?
I came to UWFox expecting it to be just an inexpensive alternative. What I got was far more than that. UWFox provides all sorts of experiences that I probably wouldn’t find as readily on a four-year campus. Probably the most interesting and useful thing that I’ve learned at UWFox is that professors are people, too. They are approachable and are there to help you, and not just tyrants that stamp you as a grade and are done with it.
What are your career plans after UWFox?
After earning my associate degree at UWFox, I’ll be transferring to UW-Stevens Point for biochemistry. I plan on working towards the ability to continue independent chemistry research there, play on the UWSP football team, and sing in the choir at there as well. After UWSP I would like to attend graduate school somewhere and hopefully someday have a career in the brewing chemistry field.
Other interesting things about yourself that you’d like to share?
I’m an Eagle Scout with four eagle palm out of Troop 004 in Brillion. I’m easily identified at UWFox by my wide array of comical t-shirts. I love every aspect of the game of football: playing it, watching it, video games of it, fantasy football, analyzing it, and overanalyzing it. I even coach it. I provide a triple donation of platelets every week at the Community Blood Center and even got on their “Wall of Fame” for my (so far) 30 donations.
In my life I’ve taken part in competitions at various levels in 10 different sports (Football, Wrestling, Track and Field, Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Horseshoes, Kickball, Soccer, and Running). I listen to a wide array of music, but primarily heavy metal, and play a mean air guitar to go with it.
