“I chose UWFox because of its cost effectiveness and the availability of the professors to the students.  It’s a really flexible college campus, and I think that’s what makes it unique.”

Age: 19

Hometown: Appleton, WI

Current residence: Appleton, WI

When attended UWFox: Fall 2009 to Spring 2011

Background before UWFox:

“I attended Appleton North High School and graduated in Spring 2009. I worked, and continue to work, at the Outagamie County Regional Airport fueling aircraft. This past spring I also interned for Congressman Steve Kagen at his Appleton office. Every summer I also volunteer at EAA Air Venture in Oshkosh.”

Besides traveling to Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee in 2007, I haven’t done much traveling lately. While I’ve always liked to visit new places, I have found that there’s quite a bit to explore in our own state. Wisconsin has a lot to offer, from our numerous lakes to the various State Parks.”

Why did you choose UWFox?

“I chose UWFox because of its cost effectiveness and the availability of the professors to the students.  It’s a really flexible college campus, and I think that’s what makes it unique. “

Have you chosen a major?

“I am a pre-law major, pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science.”

What are you learning that you find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?

“The things I find most interesting at UWFox are the students that go here, as well as the faculty and staff that work here. Being a commuter school, most of us students have jobs and families outside of class, which is something that can be a challenge when balancing it with college. Yet we all work hard at what we do, and I believe it’s that dedication that makes UWFox students stand out. As the [student government] Student Association President, I find it a pleasure that I have the opportunity to represent such a dedicated student body.

“The faculty and staff here is extraordinary as well. They work hard at keeping the students engaged, and think it’s our smaller size that helps that connection. While nearly all of my classes are intriguing, I find George Waller’s Political Science classes most enjoyable. Being a political junkie, it’s always cool to watch other students become interested in political topics in his class.”

What are your career plans after UWFox?

“After UWFox I plan to transfer to UW-Madison to finish my Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. I then plan to apply to UW-Madison’s law school and other law schools in the Midwest. After law school I intend to practice law and pursue public office.”

Other interesting things you’d like to share?

“With my passion for politics and law, I re-established the UWFox Political Science Club last year. It was an eventful year for the club, with candidate forums and a field trip. We had a fun group, and I hope it expands this year. As the 2010-2011 academic year begins, however, I’m focusing my efforts on the UWFox Student Association, making sure the voices of the students are heard and that UWFox is always an enjoyable place for quality education.”
