“I didn’t really know about the UW Colleges and two-year campuses until UWFox men’s basketball coach Lee Rabas approached me about playing at UWFox.”

Age: 19

Hometown: Green Bay, WI

Current residence: Menasha, WI

When attended UWFox: Fall 2010 to present

Background before UWFox:

I attended Green Bay Preble HS, graduating in spring 2010.  While in high school I worked at Fleet Farm, and at the Green Bay Country Club during my summer vacations.  I also worked at the Thilmany Paper Mill during the summers of 2010 and 2011, as well as weekends during the school year.

Why did you choose UW Fox?

After high school I wanted the opportunity to continue to play competitive basketball. I didn’t want to go to a four-year campus and have to sit the bench for two years. I wanted to be able to play right away. I didn’t really know about the UW Colleges and two-year campuses until UWFox men’s basketball coach Lee Rabas approached me about playing at UWFox. I did some research and found out how inexpensive UWFox is. These were the main factors in my decision.

Have you chosen a major?

Either finance or accounting.

What are you learning that you find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?

I find the campus’ associate degree program rewarding. I’m able to fulfill all my general education credits at UWFox at a lesser price than a four year college and have the credits count the same.

What are your career plans after UWFox?

I plan to go back to Green Bay and attend UWGB. From there I want to get my CPA and hopefully get a good paying job.

Other interesting things you’d like to share?

Almost every weekend I go back to Green Bay to work. Some days I’ll have to work a ten hour day at the paper mill then come back to UWFox for basketball practice. I live in an apartment in Appleton and I’m trying not to take out any loans for financial aid. So far I’ve been able to do that only because I work around 55 hours a week during the summer. I still work at the paper mill on weekends during my college academic year, and around 40 hours a week during winter break.

I was on the UWFox men’s Wisconsin Collegiate Conference state championship team last year and named to the all-tournament team during the spring 2010 WCC state tournament.
