“I enjoy the atmosphere of the challenging arguments that college offers. Being forced to think about different ideas that I’ve never considered is appealing to me, and I feel rewarded by being able to discover new ideas.”
Hometown: Appleton, WI
Current residence: Menasha, WI
When attended UWFox: Fall 2009 to present
Background before UWFox:
“I attended Menasha High School from 2005 through 2009, and graduated in June 2009. I was a part of my father’s and step-mother's business called, ‘Dell's Lemonade.’ We traversed northeast Wisconsin to attend county fairs, Wisconsin International Raceway, and many other events to sell soft frozen lemonade. It was a tiring, but fun, experience for me while I was growing up. In April 2008 we went to Arizona and ventured to the Grand Canyon. Its majestic beauty is so awesome that it silences even the most adamant critics. I was moved so much by my Arizona and Grand Canyon experience that I'm hoping to return again next year.”
Why did you choose UWFox?
“I chose to attend UWFox because I wanted to remain close to home while finishing my associate degree. The accessibility of the campus is very appealing as well. I’ve met many new and interesting people during my first year of college, and enjoy being in classes with them.”
Have you chosen a major?
“I’m majoring Political Science with a specialization in International Relations.”
What are you learning that you find interesting and rewarding at UWFox?
“I’ve enjoyed all of the Political Science classes I’ve taken. Many of my professors – and George Waller [senior lecturer in Political Science] in particular - have been easily approachable and enjoyable to talk with about class material and life outside the classroom. I enjoy the atmosphere of the challenging arguments that college offers. Being forced to think about different ideas that I’ve never considered is appealing to me, and I feel rewarded by being able to discover new ideas.”
What are your career plans after UWFox?
“After earning my associate degree at UWFox I plan to transfer to UW-Madison to finish my undergraduate studies and earn my bachelor’s degree. Then, I plan to apply to join the Peace Corps. I also plan to apply for U.S. State Department internships as well as applying for many study abroad programs. I have a deep love for European life and hope to move there for my career. My goal is to earn a graduate degree from Oxford University and maybe even run for a Member of Parliament (MP) seat in British politics.”
Other interesting things you’d like to share?
“I’m an avid Beatles fan, and I personally enjoy singing and playing the guitar. In my spare time I love trying to get better at disc golf – and believe me, there's a lot of room for improvement! I have a passion for walking and hiking. I’m a New England Patriots and Boston Celtics fan, too. Go Pats go!”
