ABOUT POETS

POETS (Pig Out Eaters & Tasters Society)

It is all about food

Evelyn had been thinking about calling a group of faculty/staff on campus to "pig out" at different local restaurants in the Fox Cities area for about two years. Finally she got her act together last fall and formed the very first eater group with Joy, Leea, Richard, Becky, Judith, Jeff, Bill, Evelyn, Juli, Will, and Angela.

Our very first event was held at Asian Taste, specializing in cuisines from Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, and Hmong. It was a fun-packed night, full of joy and laughter. Of course the food was wonderful as well. We had a very positive experience that night and decided to continue the event once every month.

We needed a name

Judith came up with EPOC (Eaters Pig Out Club) first. Then Bill suggested POETS (Pig Out Eaters & Tasters Society), inspired by the Dead Poets Society. We decided to use POETS as our name.

We have an image now

We are honored by having Judith to create a drawing for POETS. The image was inspired by Jan DeHeem's art work.

The group is growing

At some events (Tom's Black and Tan, Joy's Zacatecas, Juli's Sergio's, and Evelyn's Bao Ju), there were more than 23 people participating. It has raised some concerns that we have to look for places that can host large group of people like us.

It is a known fact

Jeff has been an old POET since day one. He came to almost every POETS event. However, Jeff has never ordered a full meal during a POETS event. He usually came in late, joined the conversation cheerfully, but just never ate with us.

Editoral Correction: Jeff has been ordering food during the recent POETS events. However, it still needs to be prooved if he has been *eating* the food. :-)

Two Emeritus POETS

We said farewell to Leea and Richard as they moved on to their new adventures. However, both "emeriti" continue participating in the POETS events on occasion.
