Student Housing Comes to UWFox

The University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley community, both on-campus and off-campus, will be strikingly different when a new $2 million private student college housing facility opens in time for the Fall 2012 semester. "The Fox Village" is being developed and built by Development Partners, a group of Fox Cities investors that’s also pursuing other private student housing projects in Grand Chute (near Fox Valley Technical College), Stevens Point and Rochester, MN.

The private living and learning facility is targeted at UWFox students and will be leased and managed by Madison’s BMOC Inc.

According to sources, the first phase of "The Fox Village" is going to be a three-story, 20,412-square-foot building with 17 apartment units. One of the apartments will be for an on-site residential director, while the remaining 16 apartment units will be rented to 61 students. "The Fox Village" is being built a short distance from the UWFox campus, just west of Sabre Lanes, on a vacant 2.5-acre parcel.

Rod Fisk, one of the principals with Development Partners, said, "It is our plan to make this off-campus housing as much like on-campus housing as possible to make it a full university experience." Leases for 2011-2012 academic year are projected to be an average of $4,600 to $4,800, comparable to similar on-campus housing elsewhere, Fisk explained.

The primary access drive for "The Fox Village" will come off Midway Road, with future plans to develop access from the north end of the site.

Information provided by Development Partners includes the following amenities for "The Fox Village:"

  • Four-bedroom and two bathroom units are fully furnished;
  • Students can arrange to live with student friends or work through the roommate matching service;
  • Each unit has a dishwasher and an over-the-counter microwave;
  • There are on-site laundry facilities;
  • There is "ample" outdoor parking free to residents of "The Fox Village;"
  • A game room and studying area with a fireplace are included;
  • Basic cable-TV and Wi-Fi are provided.

Similar to how residential campuses manage their on-campus housing units during the summer months, when most of the students return home and are not typically on campus, "The Fox Village" apartments could be rented on a short-term basis for UWFox or UW System programs, or for visitors to the Fox Cities who are in the area to attend special events when local hotel rooms are typically booked well in advance.

Current and future students who are interested in this facility should keep in mind that "The Fox Village" is a private enterprise and is not staffed, not owned and not operated by UWFox nor the UW System.
