Monuments, Museums and Mt. Vernon – UWFox Offers Washington, D.C. Tour

A place created and planned as the seat of national government, the city of Washington, D.C. is a treasury of our nation’s heritage. The Office of Continuing Education at the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley is offering a trip to the nation’s capital Wednesday, October 10 through Washington, D.C. TourSunday, October 14, 2007. 

Participants can take a monument and memorial walking tour with trip leaders or on their own to view the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, Roosevelt Memorial and Washington Monument. Visit one of the many museums, take a tour of the U.S. Capitol, or ride the tourmobile to Arlington National Cemetery to see the War Memorials and the Tomb of the Unknowns.

The District of Columbia area is easy to navigate. Trip leaders will offer new possibilities each day, leading the way to a specific museum or area.

A bus tour is scheduled to Mt. Vernon, VA, George Washington’s exquisite estate and gardens on the Potomac River, where you will learn fascinating facts about the man/soldier/hero/president and tour the mansion that dates back to the 1740’s.

The tour group will be staying at Hotel Washington, within walking distance of the White House and the National Mall. Depending upon arrangements with our Congressman, an optional tour of the White House is being planned one of the days.

The tour includes flight from Milwaukee to Reagan National Airport, transportation from UWFox to the airport and from the airport to the hotel, hotel accommodations, the Mt. Vernon/Alexandria tour, the National memorial and monument tour ticket with unlimited re-boarding for one day. There will be a pre-trip meeting to help plan your personal agenda, as there is too much to see in one trip… you’ll want to make some choices!

Group leaders for the tour of Washington, D.C. will be Kathy Palmer, UW-Manitowoc Continuing Education Director, and Cathy Paynter, UWFox Continuing Education Director.

The cost of the tour is $1395, based on double occupancy, and includes airfare, hotel, ground transportation from campus to airport and return, the Washington, D.C. tour and the Mt. Vernon tour. This trip is limited to 28 travelers – register early!!
