The Office of Continuing Education at the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley is offering a number of fine arts classes this fall.  All classes are held on the campus located at 1478 Midway Road, Menasha.

“Fabric and Nature Weaving” focuses on items from nature that are a natural combination for design and expression. When these items are combined, their color, richness, variety and texture are perfect elements for any art project. Class activities include creating several fabric designs using various techniques, utilizing batik, fabric transfer crayons and fabric markers, weaving through the use of natural elements, and experimenting with hands-on activities that can be continued after the class is done.

All materials needed for the class are included. This is a great class for those interested in art and those that are responsible for teaching art in the classroom, as well as for Scout leaders and activity directors.

The instructor is Julia Flanagan, M.S., B.A.E., B.F.A, who has 15 years teaching experience. The class is offered on four Mondays: September 29 – October 20, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and will be held in Room 1629. The $75.00 class fee includes class supplies.

“Mixed Medium” can appeal to the beginning or experienced artist. The course will present art materials in new and different ways, combining creative tips with basic arts elements and principles of design. Students will use paint, printing, fibers, found objects - and more - while experimenting with a wide variety of art mediums and methods.

Students will learn to combine a wide variety of mediums into a piece of artwork by experimenting with familiar mediums in a new and different technique, combining various art materials to create a unique art piece, exploring various mediums creating unique combinations, and utilizing and combining mediums in two and three dimensional formats.

The class fee includes all materials. Flanagan also teaches this class, which is also a great opportunity for those interested in art, as well as those that are responsible for teaching art in the classroom, or for scouts and activity directors. The class is offered on four Mondays, October 27 – November 17 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. in room 1629.

Students can enroll in both “Mixed Medium Fabric” and “Fabric and Nature Weaving” for a combined cost of $120.

For individuals who love to drawn or doodle, or have family members who would enjoy being a cartooning companion, “Building Cartoons Brick by Brick” offers the opportunity to cartoon characters by working with a variety of familiar, and unfamiliar, materials. While in the class, students will create various cartoons, experiment with caricatures, practice cartoon lettering, utilize popular cartoons, books, stories and ideas, as well as produce their own personal cartoon.

John Polansky, local art instructor and owner of Young Rembrandts, is the instructor for the class. The cost of the class is $79.00 for a student and a cartooning partner (age seven and older) and is being held on two Saturdays, November 1 and 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in room 1629.
