The University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley is presenting its annual “Holiday Concerts” on December 11, 2005. The Fox Valley Concert Band performs at 3:00 p.m. and the UWFox Chorale is performing at 7:00 p.m. The concerts are split to accommodate the larger number of people expected to attend the musical galas.
Marc Sackman, Assistant Professor of Music and Band Director, proclaims that this holiday concert is “filled with good cheer!” The selections he has chosen include, John Philip Sousa’s “Free Lance March,” Claude Smith’s “Eternal Father, Strong to Save,” Gustav Holst’s “First Suite in Eb for Military Band,” Frank Ticheli’s “Blue Shades,” Johann Strauss’ “Thunder and Lightning Polka,” and “A Christmas Festival” by Leroy Anderson.
“Some of it is holiday music,” Sackman says, “but all of it fits the spirit of the season.”
The UWFox Chorale is presenting “a few non-Christmas selections in the beginning of the concert, and we’ll end with holiday music,” according to Associate Lecturer in Music and Chorale Director Linda Feldmann.
Among the selections that Feldmann is having the Chorale perform are, “Coventry Carol,” “A Merry Christmas,” “Ha Shalom,” and “Medieval Noel,” among others.
The concerts are both being held in the Fine Arts Theatre on the UWFox campus, 1478 Midway Road, Menasha. Both are free and open to the public with open and unreserved seating.
