One of the entertainment highlights of the late winter Fox Cities' musical season occurs Sunday, March 7, when the University of Wisconsin–Fox Valley presents its annual Winter Concert. The Fox Valley Concert Band and the UWFox Jazz Ensemble are each scheduled to perform, beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre on the UWFox campus.
The concert is open to the public, and there is NO admission charge. Plenty of free parking is available on the west side of the campus.
"There are over 60 members of the Fox Valley Concert Band, with approximately 40 musicians being residents of the Fox Cities community at-large representing a wide range of ages for band members," according to Band Director and UWFox Associate Professor of Music Dave Jordahl.
Another unique aspect of the Fox Cities Concert Band is that a number of UWFox alumnae regularly return to practice and perform with the current year's musicians.
Besides the UWFox students, "the Concert Band members’ backgrounds are quite diverse: some individuals are with major corporations, some are teachers, and some are retirees. All of them come together to play in this group for the same reason: the love of music," Jordahl says.
“The Concert Band did its first concert in May, 1985, and has performed four concerts a year since then,” Jordahl reflects.
The UWFox Jazz Ensemble is under the direction of Aaron Juhl, Associate
Lecturer of Music at UWFox
