The University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley is offering a variety of musical “gourmet” performances this weekend, with enough options that are sure to appeal to a wide range of Fox Cities’ residents who have a taste for fine music.
On Friday, April 29, at 7:30 p.m. the UWFox Chorale, “Belle Voce,” and the UWFox Jazz Ensemble are performing in the Fine Arts Theatre. On Sunday, May 1, the Fox Valley Concert Band takes the stage in a concert that begins at 3:00 p.m., also in the Fine Arts Theatre.
All performances are free and open to the public, with a limited amount of unreserved seating available.
“Belle Voce” is a 42-voice chorale under the direction of Linda Feldmann (Associate Lecturer in Music), who is being accompanied by Muriel Merbach and Lynda Zimmerman (Assistant Professor of Music). The 11-member UWFox Jazz Ensemble is under the direction of Dr. Marc Sackman (Assistant Professor of Music) who also performs on the flute. Musical selections for the concert include, “Sonny Moon for Two;” “Blue Bossa;” “It Doesn’t Mean A Thing;” “Summertime;” “Autumn Leaves;” “Fly Me to the Moon;” and “Watermelon Man.” Three solo vocals are featured during the performance.
The Fox Valley Concert Band is being conducted by Sackman. The Concert Band is performing, “The Barber of Seville, Overture;” “Medieval Suite;” selections from “West Side Story;” and “The Washington Post March.”
Often referred to as the Fox Cities’ “communiversity band,” over 60 musicians comprise the Fox Valley Concert Band that showcases UWFox students, campus alumni, and members of the greater Fox Cities community who gather together under Sackman’s direction to play and perform for their love of music. The Fox Valley Concert Band has been performing four concerts a year at UWFox for over 20 years.
