The University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley Theatre Department is holding auditions for “Equus,”on Monday, February 28, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the campus’ Fine Arts Theatre.
“‘ Equus’ is an intriguing drama exploring a psychiatrist’s attempt to understand a young English stable boy, who has committed a shocking act of violence,” according the Susan Rabideau, Theatre Director at UWFox, who is directing the stage play. “It’s part detective story, part psychological thriller, and a strong theatrical creation that the audience is sure to enjoy.
The play explores questions about what is ‘normal’ and to what extent society will go to normalize people – or lock them away somewhere if they can’t be normalized.”
The play was written by Peter Shafer, the acclaimed author of “Amadeus,” according to Rabideau. Rabideau is looking fill the cast of 9 characters, plus a non-speaking ensemble of five. Individuals looking to audition need not prepare anything, as those auditioning will be asked to read from the script of the play.
“Equus” is best suited for mature audiences. Performances are scheduled for April 14, 15, 16, 21, and 22 at 7:00 p.m. There is a 2:00 p.m. matinee on Saturday, April 23.
