One of the entertainment highlights of this concert season occurs this Sunday, October 24, when the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley presents its fall concert. The Fox Valley Concert Band and the UWFox Jazz Ensemble are each scheduled to perform, beginning at 3:00 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre on the UWFox campus.
The concert is open to the public, and there is NO admission charge. Plenty of free parking is available.
The Fox Valley Concert Band is a "communiversity band," or "town and gown" band, according to UW-Fox Associate Professor of Music Dave Jordahl. There are over 60 members of the Concert Band, with approximately 40 musicians being members of the Fox Cities community. That is, the Concert Band is made up of members of the community AND students. The ages of Concert Band members run from 18-77 years.
The Concert Band members' backgrounds are quite diverse: some individuals are with major corporations, some are teachers, and some are retirees. All of them come together to play in this group for the same reason: the love of music.
"The Concert Band did its first concert in May, 1985, and has performed four concerts a year since then," Jordahl remarked.
The UWFox Jazz Band has more than 10 members in it, and also performing Sunday.
