The University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley’s basketball program heads into the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference “Final Four” tournament this weekend at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha with a ton of enthusiasm, a boatload of optimism, and high expectations.

The UWFox women’s team used, “A suffocating defense [that] paved the way to a 70-49 victory over the visiting UW-Marinette Lady Bucs,” according to Coach Tracy Natz, speaking about the Cyclones win this past Wednesday night in its Wisconsin Collegiate Conference (W.C.C.) quarterfinal match-up.

“With the win the Cyclones advance to the W.C.C. state tournament this weekend. It also gives the [lady] Cyclones a 20-5 overall record and their thirteenth victory in a row.  For the second time in campus history the women’s basketball team has made it to state,” Natz said.

Brittany Blob added 16 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, while Tori Thern chipped in 12 points and pulled down 16 rebounds. Thern led the team with eight assists while Pethke dished out four assists,” Natz summarized.

The Cyclones will face UW-Waukesha in the W.C.C. semi-final game on Saturday, February 26, with a 3:00 p.m. tip-off.  If the lady Cyclones win, they play the winner of Saturday’s 1:00 p.m. game between UW-Marathon and UW-Fond du Lac at noon on Sunday, February 27.

The UWFox men’s team defeated UW-Sheboygan 82-60 in its W.C.C. quarterfinal match up, also played this past Wednesday night.  “With the win the Cyclones men advance to play UW-Rock County at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 26th in the first W.C.C. semi-final game,” according to Coach Lee Rabas.

UW-Waukesha plays UW-Marathon in the men’s other semi-final game at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.  The W.C.C. championship game will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 27.

“UWFox was led by Jake Coenen who scored 21 points on the night,” Rabas said.  “Phil Landua had 17 points to go with his outstanding defensive effort, Beau Reshel added 14, and Lucas Schultz came off the bench to score 12 points and grab 6 rebounds.  Joe Dachelet rounded out the Cyclone attack with eight points and eight rebounds.”
