“One Drum,” a Milwaukee drum and voice ensemble, will perform at the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley on Wednesday, April 19, at noon in the Student Union. The event is free, and the public is invited.
The eight-person group promises more drums per square inch of stage space than any other. “One Drum” features multilingual three and four-part vocal harmonies, African, Latin and Brazilian dance forms and instruments like charango, dijeridoo, oud, berimbau and kalimba. The band's roots go back to the early '90s, when founding members called themselves the “Community Drummers.”
“One Drum” emerged from this group with an expanded focus on world music and greater use of the voice and melodic instruments. These days, “One Drum: World Tour” is performing across the U.S. and as far away as Egypt.
The group is known for professional, energetic performances, educational programs and spreading the word about the healing power of music for all people.
This concert is sponsored by the UWFox Campus Activities Board. Jeff Kuepper, student activities director at UWFox, works collaboratively with other area schools and campuses to efficiently bring distinguished acts and speakers to as many venues as possible. Since students at UWFox are primarily commuters, noon events conveniently coincide with their schedules.
