The University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley’s men’s and women’s basketball teams head into the 2012 Wisconsin Collegiate Conference’s (WCC) state-wide playoffs with enthusiasm and a vision of success.
The men’s team, led by Coach Lee Rabas, is the top seeded team in the WCC East Division, having posted a 21-2 won-lost record for the 2011-2012 season. The Cyclones men are the defending WCC state champions, having defeated UW-Waukesha a year ago to claim UWFox’s first-ever state basketball championship.
The Cyclones men host UW-Sheboygan on Wednesday night, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the UWFox Fieldhouse as they kick off defense of their title. If the Cyclones win, they proceed to the WCC semi-finals and finals this coming Saturday and Sunday in Wausau at the UW-Marathon County campus.
The Lady Cyclones, led by Coach Tracy Natz, posted a 2011-2012 season record of 7-18, and have already tasted playoff success in 2012, having defeated UW-Manitowoc last Saturday, 61-44 at Manitowoc, in a “play-in” game for both teams. The UWFox women’s team heads to UW-Marathon County on Wednesday night to face off against the host Huskies to see who plays in the WCC semi-finals and finals this weekend, also at the Wausau campus.
The Lady Cyclones finished second in the WCC state tournament last year, the highest finish in team history. Expectations are high for 2012, as the team is focused, playing tight defense and executing team play.
