The Fox Valley Concert Band, under the direction of Dr. Marc Sackman, is presenting its Spring Concert on Friday, May 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley Field House. The concert is free and open to the public with unreserved seating.
The Spring Concert program focuses on music inspired by various European folk music traditions, including works by Antonín Dvořák and Bela Bartok.
Sackman is an associate professor of music and director of bands at UWFox.
“Two large works for band will be performed,” said Sackman. “ ‘Yiddish Dances’ by Adam Gorb, and music based on the Celtic tradition of the Isle of Man, ‘Mannin Veen’ by Haydn Wood.”
“No concert of this type would be complete without a work by the Australian master Percy Grainger,” according to Sackman. “The band will perform his setting of the Scottish folk song ‘Ye Banks’ and ‘Braes O’ Bonnie Doon’. Our march for the evening will be by John Philip Sousa, ‘The Gallant Seventh’.”
