Summer Youth Programs Offered at UWFox

The Office of Continuing Education at the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley is now taking registrations for summer youth programming. Families are sure to find interesting and stimulating learning activities for young people that will be entering grades one through seven in the fall of 2008. Classes are offered throughout the summer and are held at the UWFox campus in Menasha.Summer Fun 2008

“Ready-Set-Discover!” is being offered a student entering first and second grade. Classes are being held July 21 - 23, from 9:00 a.m. – noon. Children explore hands-on activities in art, intriguing science projects, and technology. The cost of “Ready-Set-Discover!” is $65.00 until June 9; $80.00 until June 23; and $95.00 thereafter.

College for Kids” is celebrating its 10th year anniversary of expanding the horizon of children in the fine arts, communication arts, sciences, technology and more. Designed for students entering grades two through seven, classes are offered July 21 – 25, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. The fee for “College for Kids” is $95.00 until June 9; $110.00 until June 23; and $125.00 thereafter.

“MindStorms™ Mission...The Next Generation,” is being offered students entering grades six through eight. There are various dates and skill levels being offered during, June, July and August.

Level One, for beginners, has the following sessions available: June 16-20, 1:00 p.m. – 4:15 p.m.; June 23-27, 8:30 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.; and a session specially designed for girls, August 11-15, 8:30 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.

Level Two, the intermediate level, is available to students who have completed Level One or if the student has had programming experience on a First LEGO® League team. Sessions are provided June 23-27, 1:00 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. and July 28-August 1, 8:30 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.

Level Three is the advanced level and is open to students who have completed Level Two. One session is available July 28-August 1, 1:00 p.m. – 4:15 p.m.

“MindStorms™ Mission...The Next Generation” has been redesigned to include ROBOLAB™ and NXT Robot System and will stimulate students’ imaginations and creativity through exploration, experience, and expression. The cost for each of the three levels is $110.00 until June and $125.00 thereafter.

“Grandparents’ U® at UWFox” is designed for grandparents and their grandchildren, ages 8 through 12, and provides an opportunity for grandparents and grandchildren to learn from each other. The session runs August 7 - 8, from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  Participants can sign up for any two topics in science, art, engineering, and technology. A special session of “MindStorms™ Mission...The Next Generation” will be offered during “Grandparents’ U® at UWFox,” and is especially designed for 11-and 12-year-olds with their grandparents. The cost is $199.00 for one grandparent and one grandchild through July 3, and $220.00 thereafter. (The term “Grandparents University®”  is a registered trademark of the United States Patent Office and is used with permission.  “Grandparents’ U®  at UWFox” is based on the program which originated in 2001 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.)
