UWFox Offers Theatre Trips to Chicago and New York City
The University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley, through its Office of Continuing Education, is offering exciting trips to two of the USA’s theatrical hotspots, New York City and Chicago.
The sixth annual UWFox theater trip to New York City is scheduled from Wednesday, June 2 through Sunday, June 6, 2010. In five days, participants will experience three top-notch New York plays, including "Billy Elliot," "Million Dollar Quartet," and a non-musical to be announced. The UWFox group will spend four nights at the spectacular Marriott Marquis Hotel, located at Times Square, 45th and Broadway. In addition to the fabulous Broadway theatre expeience, the tour includes several optional excursions guided by the UWFox tour leaders, plus plenty of time for private exploration.
"Billy Elliot" has delighted the critics and captured hearts worldwide. As one of the most acclaimed musicals in recent years, this production won 10 Tony Awards® in 2009, including, "Best Musical." The show is a joyous, exciting and feel-good celebration of one boy following his heart and making his dreams come true.
"Million Dollar Quartet" brings to life the magical night of December 4, 1956 when Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins gathered at Sun Records in Memphis for what would be one of the greatest jam sessions ever. The production features a score of rock hits that includes "Blue Suede Shoes," "Fever," "That's All Right," "Sixteen Tons," "Great Balls of Fire," "Walk the Line," "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On," "Who Do You Love?," "Matchbox," "Folsom Prison Blues" and "Hound Dog."
The $1859 for the five-day New York City trip is based on double occupancy and includes motor coach service from the UWFox campus to Milwaukee and round trip air transportation to New York City; four nights at the Marriott Marquis Hotel; and the group tour of some of New York’s many attractions. For single occupancy please add $600. A $100 non-refundable deposit needs to be submitted with registration.
Group leaders for this New York City theatrical tour are Susan Rabideau, UWFox associate professor of Theatre and Communication Arts and theatre director; Bil Stachour, New York City navigator for the group; and Kathy Palmer, director of the Office of Continuing Education at UW-Manitowoc.
The trip to Chicago’s Ford Center, Oriental Theatre is scheduled for Wednesday, June 9, to see the 2:00 p.m. performance of "Billy Elliot."
Coach transportation for the trip to Chicago leaves the UWFox campus at 7:30 a.m. on June 9 and is expected to return to the campus at approximately 9:30 p.m. The 2:00 p.m. performance is expected to run approximately 2 hours, 45 minutes, including the show’s intermission.
The fee for round-trip transportation, Lower Balcony seating for the performance, and a box dinner during the return trip is $109.
