The Weis Earth Science Museum is holding a reception on Sunday, January 29, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., in conjunction with its newest exhibit, "Mineral Marvels from Wisconsin Mines." The exhibit highlights the outstanding collection of Wisconsin minerals, which is considered one of the best in the world, owned by the Weis Earth Science Museum, Wisconsin’s Official Mineralogical Museum.
According to Museum Director Joanne Kluessendorf, the museum recently acquired the Schlaefur collection of minerals from southwestern Wisconsin with financial assistance from Clyde Stephenson and his family, including his sons Bob, James and Rollie, with further assistance from Town & Country Electric. "The reception gives us a chance to showcase these extraordinarily beautiful natural objects and honor the generosity of the Stephenson family and Town & Country Electric in helping bring the collection to the Weis Earth Science Museum and the Fox Valley," Kluessendorf said. "Visitors will be amazed at the beauty of the minerals that are used to make everyday items like batteries, medicines and steel.”
The reception is being held in the Evolving Gallery inside the museum, which is located on the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley campus at 1478 Midway Rd., Menasha. The reception is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For more information, please contact Kluessendorf at 920-832-2925 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
